This is a bit delayed but it has taken me a while to get back on my feet since returning home.

One of first things Dwayne The Rock Johnson said to me when I met him was how his Mom had seen this painting online, sent him a photo of it and said “Dwayne, look at this, we need to buy it!”. Little did she know, I was actually painting it for him.

For those of you who don’t know, about 3 months ago, DJ took the time to show his appreciation for my work by sharing one of my pieces. In an effort to express how thankful I was for him doing so, I decided to paint something especially for him. At first, I couldn’t decide what I should paint for him, until a special someone (who stubbornly doesn’t want to be named haha) gave me the idea to paint him and his Mom. I can strongly relate to the relationship DJ shares with his Mom (and we spoke about this when I met him), so I set myself the task of completing this painting. I wanted to commit myself to this piece entirely, so worked on it for 3 days with no breaks – no sleep or showering haha.

Basically, persistence is the key to everything in life. There’s a long story behind how this painting actually made it into this legends hands. I won’t drain you with that. What I will say is that I have never met someone as KIND and genuine as DJ. Giving him something that I had worked so hard on and opening it with him in his trailer on set was a moment I’ll never forget. He looked at me in the eyes and said “D, thank you so much for all the effort you’ve taken to get this to me, it’s beautiful”. He is going to give it to his Mom and I was so glad to hear that. I’ll be forever grateful for how he expressed his appreciation for my art, my energy, my drive and determination – and there’s no better person to hear it from than the man himself!

I hope you all enjoyed the insight into my experience and of course the time lapse!
